Stonewall RCMP are reporting that a 29-year-old Winnipeg man has recently died as the result of a vehicle collision that occurred near Elie, Manitoba.
On November 18, 2022, at 6:05pm, RCMP officers from Stonewall and Headingley responded to a report of a cube truck colliding with a guardrail on a bridge located on Highway 1 near Elie, Manitoba.
Officers arrived on scene and were advised that both occupants of the cube truck were being prepared for transport to hospital. The 25-year-old male driver was reported to have suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries whereas the 29-year-old male passenger, from Winnipeg, was reported to be in critical condition. Police noted that the Winnipeg man later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators believe that after the cube truck collided with the guardrail, both occupants exited the vehicle and stood outside next to it. It was at this time that a semi-trailer, who was in the process of slowing down to go around the damaged vehicle, clipped the cube truck with its trailer. As a result of the cube truck being hit, it was pushed into the two men who were standing next to it.
Police say that the 23-year-old male semi driver, from Brampton, ON, who was not physically injured, immediately pulled over and provided medical assistance until EMS arrived on scene.
RCMP report that road conditions were factors in the collision.
