RCMP are reporting that a quantity weapons were recently seized, resulting from the investigation of a 33-year-old Garden Hill man who had been having a heated discussion with another member of the community.
On April 5, 2023, an Island Lake RCMP officer was driving to the Northern Store in Garden Hill First Nation after shift when the officer saw a known male walking in the community. The officer noted that the man was having a heated discussion with another community member and stopped to make sure everything was good.
Police say that upon speaking with the man, the officer learned that he was banned from the community and had drugs on his person. Subsequently, 33-year-old Preston Kakegamic was taken into custody.
RCMP report that when Kakegamic’s vehicle was searched, a sawed-off shotgun, six knives, and a large amount of ammunition was located and seized. It was noted that he also had four outstanding warrants related to drug charges and was prohibited from possessing firearms.
Preston Kakegamic was remanded in custody on firearm-related charges and failing to comply with undertaking conditions.
