The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) has announced that two Winnipeg police officers have been charged in connection to a recent incident involving serious injury during an arrest.
On April 12, 2022, the IIU received a notification from the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) regarding an allegation of a serious injury sustained by a male during his arrest that occurred on April 11, 2022.
The civilian director was satisfied that there are reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred and has authorized charges in this matter.
As a result of this investigation, Const. Evan Fehr, Const. Barry Knudsen and Const. Tyler Rahn have each been issued a summons for a future date in Winnipeg Provincial Court for assault causing bodily harm, contrary to s. 267(b) of the Criminal Code.
The IIU announced on April 13, 2022, that it had launched an investigation into this incident.
