The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a male that resulted in him sustaining injuries.
On May 29, 2023, Brandon Police Service (BPS) reported the following incident to the IIU. According to the notification, on May 27, 2023, at approximately 2:25 p.m., BPS officers were called to an address in the 100 block of 13th Street concerning a report of a disturbance.
Upon arrival, police investigated the incident and enforced an existing court order. A male struggled with officers and attempted to flee. His apprehension resulted in the loss of a tooth. The male was charged, medically cleared and remains in custody.
The IIU civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.
