The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating an incident that took place on June 17, 2023, in the area of Nairn Avenue and Watt Street in Winnipeg.
On June 27, 2023, Winnipeg Police Service and RCMP notified the IIU of an incident that occurred on June 17, 2023, at approximately 4 p.m. According to the notification, a male driver was travelling with his family when he observed the driver of a vehicle brake behind him, then roll down the window and begin uttering threats and making racial comments towards him. The vehicle then left the area.
Upon receiving the report, WPS identified the vehicle’s registered owner and later identified him as an off-duty RCMP officer. As a result, the IIU was notified. The civilian director has determined that it is in the public interest for the IIU to assume conduct of this investigation.
