Stonewall RCMP recently responded to a report of a large fight occurring between inmates at Stony Mountain Institution. The report was received on July 17, 2023, at approximately 6:35pm.
As a result of the report, officers learned that some of the inmates involved in the incident were armed with edged weapons.
Police say that seven inmates were injured and taken to hospital, as well, a 33-year-old male inmate from Winnipeg was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of this incident.
RCMP Major Crime Services, along with Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate.
