Steinbach RCMP are reporting that a young male driver was recently charged for street racing which resulted in a collision with a traffic light on Main Street in Steinbach.

RCMP members recently responded to a single motor vehicle accident at the corner of Main Street and Friesen Avenue in Steinbach.

Police learned from witnesses that a white Ford truck appeared to have been racing with another truck down Main Street. Police believe that due to the wet roads, the truck lost control and collided with the traffic light at the intersection. Witnesses also stated that the truck started to fishtail and completed two 360 degree turns before hitting the traffic light.

Officers say that the suspect truck drove away from the scene of the accident, but was later located by police. The driver was subsequently charged for street racing and the truck was impounded for seven days.

RCMP report that no injuries occurred to the young male driver of the white truck. Due to the exposed wire resulting from the collision, Manitoba Hydro and City of Steinbach staff were called to the scene.

Steinbach RCMP are reminding drivers that street racing is illegal and that it has consequences.
