The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating an off-road vehicle (ORV) collision resulting in serious injuries that occurred at the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Young Street in Winnipeg.
On September 10, 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service notified the IIU of an incident that occurred that day around 5:09pm, when officers observed an ORV on McMicken Street near Sargent Avenue. Officers followed and attempted to stop the ORV when it collided with two civilian vehicles at Ellice Avenue and Young Street. The driver of the ORV was transported to Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries. The drivers of the other two vehicles did not require hospitalization.
As the resulting injuries meet the definition of a serious injury under IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
