The City of Steinbach has announced its official renaming of the former Hampton Village Park, located behind Wyndham Estate Drive, to Chris Goertzen Park. This change coincides with recent upgrades and additions to the park, and recognizes how instrumental the previous Mayor, Chris Goertzen, was when envisioning this natural and welcoming space for residents in the area to enjoy.
Officials say that the newly named Chris Goertzen Park features a recently added state-of-the-art playground and swing set, including an accessible swing, as well as a picnic shelter with tables and abundant green space.
“We are excited to unveil the new name of this community park to Chris Goertzen Park,” said Mayor Earl Funk. “I think the new name not only recognizes the recent updates to this park, which received great support from the residents and families in the area, but it also recognizes the history of this space. Chris Goertzen was dedicated to and influential in keeping this space as a natural park for community members to enjoy.”
The unveiling of the new name took place at a private ceremony on Thursday, September 21 at the park, behind Wyndham Estates.
