The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a male in Brandon on September 24, 2023.
On September 25, Brandon Police Service (BPS) notified the IIU of an incident that resulted in a serious injury that required medical attention. According to the notification, on September 24 at 4:21pm, members of the BPS responded to a call for service regarding a man attempting arson. The man ran from the scene, resulting in a police car colliding with the man in front of police headquarters. The man was then taken to Brandon Regional Hospital, where it was determined he had a broken arm.
As a broken arm is defined as a serious injury under IIU regulation, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
