Manitoba RCMP are currently investigating two violent assault incidents that occurred over the Remembrance Day weekend.
On November 11, 2023, at 12:25am, Chemawawin RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a residence located in the community.
Officers arrived on scene and located the 56-year-old male victim. The man had life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported to the nursing station, and then rushed to the hospital in The Pas where he was treated and later released.
Investigators have determined that the victim was attempting to remove unwanted guests from his home when he was attacked by a 16-year-old male youth with a machete. The youth fled the scene immediately after the attack, but was subsequently located, arrested and remanded into custody on charges of aggravated assault and failing to comply with a release order.
On November 11, 2023, at 3:50am, Pukatawagan RCMP responded to the nursing station on a report of two victims having been brought in with serious injuries. The victims were then life-flighted to Winnipeg where their condition was later upgraded to stable.
Police investigation discovered that the male victims, ages 22 and 55, were at a residence in the community when two male suspects, ages 25 and 26, broke in and immediately assaulted them with a baseball bat and dumbbell.
RCMP report that the suspects fled the scene and have yet to be located.
