The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of an adult male in Winnipeg.
On December 4, 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) notified the IIU of an incident that resulted in an injury to an adult male. According to the notification, on December 3 at approximately 2:44pm, members of the WPS observed a male attend an address in the 500 block of London Street where search warrant was about to be executed. While attempting to arrest the male, he fled on foot. An officer deployed two less lethal rounds and struck the male in the leg. The male was taken into custody and a bruise was observed at the point of impact.
As this matter involves the discharge of a firearm, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
