The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is currently investigating a hit and run incident involving an off-duty RCMP officer.
On Dec. 30, 2023, Manitoba RCMP notified the IIU of an incident that occurred at approximately midnight in Nelson House. According to the notification, RCMP received a call regarding a hit and run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. RCMP met with an adult male who said he had been hit by a vehicle in Nelson House. Shortly after, officers discovered the driver of the vehicle was an off-duty RCMP officer from another Manitoba detachment.
The civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.
