Manitoba RCMP Major Crimes are currently investigating five recent deaths that occurred in southern Manitoba. The incidents are believed to be suspicious in nature.
On February 11, 2024, at approximately 7:30am, Carman RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run on Highway 3, approximately 6.5km south of Carman. When officers arrived, the body of an adult female was located just off the highway in a nearby ditch. She was pronounced deceased on scene.
Later that same morning, at approximately 10am, Headingley RCMP received a call of a vehicle on fire on Highway 248, north of PTH 424 in the RM of Cartier. As officers were en route, a witness was able to pull three young children from the burning vehicle. Officers report that all three children were declared deceased on scene. A 29-year-old male at the scene of the vehicle fire was taken into custody.
The investigation continued and led officers to a residence in Carman, where the body of another female was located.
RCMP believe that the adult male in custody, and all five deceased individuals, are known to each other.
The five deaths are all considered suspicious. RCMP Major Crime Services, along with Carman RCMP, Headingley/Stonewall RCMP, RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist Unit, continue to investigate these incidents.
