The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deployment of a less-lethal firearm and the injury of an adult male in Norway House First Nation.
On January 31, Norway House RCMP notified the IIU of an incident that resulted in an injury to an adult male. According to the notification, on January 30 at approximately 7:19pm, officers attended a residence in Norway House First Nation regarding threats of violence. Upon arrival, officers discovered two males who had barricaded themselves in the residence. RCMP attempted to take the men into custody. A round discharged from an extended range impact weapon resulted in bruising to the torso of one of the males.
As any injury resulting from the use of a firearm is deemed a serious injury, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
