The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of an adult male in Winnipeg.
On April 24, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) notified the IIU of an incident that resulted in an injury requiring medical attention. According to the notification, on April 23 at approximately 3:12pm, members of the WPS attended an address in the 1000 block of Andrews Street in response to a high priority domestic call for service. Upon arrival, officers attempted to gain entry to the suite and were denied. The door was eventually opened and officers engaged in a physical altercation with a male, who was eventually restrained and paramedics were called. The male was subsequently transported to the Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg for treatment.
The civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.
Witnesses or individuals who have information or video footage that may assist the investigation are asked to contact the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
