Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP are reporting that a 29-year-old woman from Dauphin was recently arrested and charged after stealing a septic truck and driving dangerously.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP recently received a report that a female suspect had stolen the septic truck from Ebb and Flow First Nation and was last seen on Provincial Road 278.

Police say that an officer enroute to the call saw the truck go through a stop sign at the intersection of Provincial Road 278 and Highway 68. The truck then began heading west on Highway 68, toward Ste. Rose du Lac. The officer initiated a traffic stop, however, the driver of the septic truck did not stop. The officer noted that the truck was driving erratically and veered into the oncoming lane of traffic.

Officers then had emergency equipment activated to alert oncoming motorists after several motorists were forced off the road by the truck. Police say that no collisions occurred and nobody sustained physical injuries.

Members were finally able to stop the vehicle when they deployed a spike belt. As a result, the truck ended up in the ditch, at which time the female driver and lone occupant of the septic truck jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to get the female into custody.

RCMP report that the 29-year-old female driver, from Dauphin, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, flight from Police, and dangerous driving. The septic truck was eventually recovered by officials from Ebb and Flow First Nation.
