Premier Wab Kinew announced that new data from Statistics Canada shows that Manitoba government’s plan to grow the economy is working, with an increase of 3,100 jobs in the month of June.
“Our plan to bring more jobs to Manitoba and grow the province’s economy is working,” said Kinew. “More Manitobans are working now since we took office in October. The work is not done yet. We want to create more opportunities for young people to join the workforce and create a good life in Manitoba.”
From May to June, Manitoba gained 3,100 jobs, which was more than the national average. Full-time employment was up 0.8 per cent and the province’s unemployment rate is the lowest in Canada at 5.1 per cent.
“There is a lot of work left to do to help people with the cost of living but we are making strides in a short amount of time and it’s having an impact,” said Kinew. “Our government will continue to put in the work to build a provincial economy that works for you.”
The premier noted Manitoba’s gas prices are also the lowest in Canada and the gas tax holiday has directly led to the province having the lowest inflation in the country for five months straight.
