On May 28, 2017, at approximately 5:40pm, officers from the Russel RCMP detachment responded to a report of a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 16, located 15 kilometres south of Binscarth.
Early police investigation has revealed that a southbound pickup truck collided head-on with a northbound SUV. The driver of the pickup truck, a 62-year-old Winnipeg man, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. The driver of the SUV, a 58-year-old Winnipeg woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 43-year-old female passenger from the SUV, from the RM of St. Clements, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.
RCMP report that alcohol and speed are not considered factors in this collision. Officers from the Russel RCMP Detachment along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
