On July 30, 2024, at approximately 12:35am, Oakbank RCMP responded to a report of a multiple-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 101 (South Perimeter Highway).
Officers arrived on scene and discovered three pickup trucks and a semi-trailer involved in the collision. Additional officers from Beausejour, St-Pierre-Jolys, Red River North, Selkirk and the Winnipeg Police Service arrived on scene, providing assistance.
Initial investigation determined that three pickup trucks were traveling west on Highway 15. It appears that one of the pickup trucks made contact with one of the other westbound trucks. That contact made the first truck lose control and veer to the right, where it struck the side of a trailer of a semi-trailer stopped at the red light in the southbound lane of the Perimeter Highway. The contact between the two pickups caused the second pickup truck to collide with the third westbound pickup truck. These two vehicles subsequently went through the intersection and came to rest on the west side of the Perimeter Highway.
Police say that the male driver of the first pickup involved in the collision was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the second pickup was transported to Winnipeg hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the third pickup was treated and released on scene. The 69-year-old male semi-driver was not injured.
RCMP report that all three pickups were driven by males in their 20s and that the investigation is ongoing.
