After being stranded due to boat problems, two adults, along with an infant, from Mitchell, Manitoba, were recently rescued from a location approximately two kilometres from shore near Camper’s Cove boat launch on Clearwater Lake.

The Pas RCMP recently received a report that a boater was stranded with his wife, infant son, and two dogs on Clearwater Lake. Police were told that the boat’s power and propulsion failed.

Officers learned that the boaters had been stranded for more than three hours, and were adrift with no natural daylight, as they had been trying to fix the boat. Conditions were rapidly deteriorating, with winds and waves picking up. The boaters were not aware of what direction they were drifting as there was no light.

When the rescue team of three RCMP officers hit the water, they encountered three to four foot waves. As they searched the area, they saw a blinking light and were alerted to the boat’s location. The boat was dangerously close to a reef, which could have caused the vessel to founder.

RCMP report that the rescue team had to work quickly to maneuver around the reef, secure the boat, and tow it back to shore. It was noted that all occupants were not physically injured as a result of this incident.
