On June 18, 2017, at approximately 2:20am, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision in the City of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The collision occurred on Crescent Road West at the intersection of 4th Street South-West.
Officers attended the scene and discovered an SUV that had collided with a tree. Police investigators believe that the SUV was traveling westbound on Crescent Avenue at a high rate of speed when it crossed over the center line and struck the tree.
RCMP report that the 22-year-old female driver, along with a 20-year-old female passenger, both from Portage la Prairie, were pronounced deceased at the scene. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this incident and if either of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Officers from the Portage la Prairie Detachment along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
