Selkirk RCMP are reporting that a Springfield man was recently arrested and charged in connection to an investigation that led to the recovery of a quantity of stolen batteries and solar panels.

On April 2, 2025, Selkirk RCMP received a report regarding the theft of numerous batteries being stolen from a property located in the RM of West St Paul. RCMP noted that the batteries were those that are used on large roadway notification signs.

As a result of the information received and the subsequent ongoing investigation, officers from the Selkirk GIS unit executed a search warrant on April 3 at a residence located on Lincoln Avenue in Winnipeg. Subsequently, officers recovered 26 deep cycle batteries, along with 11 commercial solar panels.

Police say that the stolen goods had an estimated value of $25,000 and that the batteries from this theft were recovered along with others from previously reported incidents.

RCMP report that a 35-year-old Springfield man was arrested on scene and later released for a future court appearance in Selkirk. The suspect will be facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime and trafficking in property obtained by crime.
