Steinbach MLA and Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced that six new appointments and two reappointments are being made to the board of CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB), as well as one new appointment to the Manitoba Health Appeal Board.
“The board of CancerCare Manitoba sets the agenda for the long-term strategies, vision and planning of the organization, and the new appointees will bring their significant expertise to assist in this important work,” said Goertzen. “In addition, the new appointee to the Manitoba Health Appeal Board will help ensure Manitobans continue to have access to an independent arms-length appeal process for health-care services.”
The six new CancerCare Manitoba appointments include:
- Matt Bolley (Brandon): a chartered professional accountant, chartered accountant, business advisor and partner with MNP. He is also currently the co-chair of the Manitoba Summer Fair, a Keystone Centre board member plus the chair of Brandon Salutes. He is also the past treasurer and chair of the MS Society of Canada.
- Darlene Grantham (Stonewall): a clinical nurse specialist and oncology consultant at the Health Sciences Centre. She has a masters degree in nursing from the University of Manitoba and has served on various boards including the HSC Ethical Review Committee, the WRHA Advance Practice Nursing Group, and the Manitoba Metis Federation Inc.
- Susan Graham (Winnipeg): president of a Winnipeg-based milk manufacturing company, former vice-president of the Health Sciences Centre Foundation and former interim chief executive officer of Friends of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
- Dr. Karen Juce (Hamiota): a rural family physician with 25 years’ experience serving rural Manitoba. She is also a lecturer with the University of Manitoba’s faculty of medicine and the recipient of the Award of Excellence from the Manitoba College of Family Physicians in recognition of her service.
- Nimmi Ramgotra (Winnipeg): a retired restaurateur with over 25 years’ experience establishing two successful restaurants in Winnipeg – Taste of India and the Samosa Hut. She remains an active community volunteer, helping with various organizations, most recently Folklorama.
- Mary Beth Taylor (Winnipeg): president and chief fundraising strategist for the Creaddo Group, an organization that aims to help charities improve their revenue and engagement strategies. She has also worked for a variety of non-profit organizations including as communications chair for the Norwood Community Centre and co-chair of the Kid’s Dream Team, Ismail Family, Hospitality House.
Two members will be reappointed:
- Jeoff Chipman (Winnipeg): president of Longboat Development Corp. and former president and chief executive officer of the Stevenson Group Inc. He has been involved with several prominent real-estate projects in Winnipeg and served on numerous community organizations such as the Manitoba Museum, HSC Foundation and Continuity Care. He has served as vice-chair of the CancerCare Manitoba Board since 2014.
- Judge Rocky Pollack (Winnipeg): was appointed to the provincial court of Manitoba in 2006 and became chief judge in 2016. He has also been an active volunteer with CancerCare Manitoba, director of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, past-president of the Winnipeg Board of Jewish Education and past vice-president of the Jewish Child and Family Service.
The Manitoba Health Appeal Board is an independent body responsible for making decisions on appeals related to financial or operational matters in the health-care system. Andrea Doyle (Winnipeg) is an associate lawyer with Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP and is being appointed to the board.
The selection of board members is based on a range of knowledge and skills, in areas such as governance in public-sector, private-sector or not-for-profit boards, government structures and processes, law, business, finance and accounting.
The minister thanked outgoing board members for their service.
