On October 22, 2017, shortly after 8pm, Grandview RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Road 153 West, approximately 14 kilometers northwest of Grandview, Manitoba.

Police say that the 22-year-old male driver of a mini-van was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 48-year-old male passenger was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Both men were from the Valley River First Nation.

Investigators determined that the van had been driving westbound when it went off the road and driven into some trees. It appears the driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt while the passenger was buckled up. At this time it is undetermined whether alcohol was a contributing factor to the collision.

The investigation continues with the assistance of an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.
