A Manitoba RCMP officer charged with impaired driving and refusal to provide a breath sample while off-duty in a personal vehicle, recently appeared in Provincial Court. The officer was charged on September 29, 2017, following a detailed investigation by East St. Paul RCMP.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on September 1, 2017. Officers responded immediately, located and stopped the suspect vehicle. Once out of the vehicle, the driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver was taken to the East St. Paul RCMP detachment, where he refused to provide a breath sample.
Police say that the driver, Corporal Scott Hanson, a 17-year member of the RCMP, has been placed on administrative duties. The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was notified the night of the arrest and are monitoring the investigation.
