RCMP have charged a Winnipeg Police Service officer with impaired care and control of a motor vehicle in connection to an investigation that began this past November.

On November 20, 2017, at approximately 8:30am, Headingley RCMP on patrol observed an individual parked on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway, just west of Headingley. The officer stopped behind the parked vehicle and spoke with the lone occupant, who was seated in the driver’s seat. The occupant, a 41-year-old male, displayed signs of intoxication. He was arrested for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle and taken to the Headingley RCMP Detachment, where he refused to provide a breath sample.

RCMP report that Leslie McRae, an officer with the Winnipeg Police Service, was charged on January 10, 2018. He is facing charges of refusing to provide a breath sample and care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired. The officer was off-duty at the time of the arrest.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was notified the day of the arrest and monitored the investigation.
