Keystone Agricultural Producers 2018 annual meeting will be taking place on Wednesday February 24 and 25, starting at 9am at the Delta Winnipeg.
Following greetings from KAP and the province, the line-up of speakers begins with Dermot Hayes, who is a distinguished professor in agriculture and life sciences at Iowa State University, as well as a professor of economics and a professor of finance. His presentation is Agricultural Trade in an Ever-changing World, and he will be followed by a trade response panel.
In the afternoon, KAP’s climate initiative co-ordinator, Sean Goertzen, will give a final report on his research into climate change, titled Adapting to a Changing Production Climate. Also Wednesday, KAP will elect its president and vice-presidents.
On Thursday, the Manitoba Young Farmers Conference will join the KAP meeting to hear from David Yee, vice-president of Saskatchewan Operations at PAMI, whose presentation is Looking Ahead at Ag Tech. As well, Annette Desmarais, Canada research chair in human rights, social justice and food sovereignty at the University of Manitoba, will explore Who is Buying the Farm in the Prairies?.
Also that morning there will be a panel discussion with Canadian farm leaders before the KAP meeting ends at 12:30.
The young farmers meeting will continue until Friday, with a policy case study session and presentations on Pitching to the Media, Our Young Farmer Landscape, Finding Your Voice in Taxing Times and Building Public Trust. The event ends with participants discussing high-profile agricultural issues with those experienced in the industry.
