Steinbach’s Summer in the City festival committee has announced that Toronto-based band Manic Drive will be headlining the SCU Main Stage at Worship in the City’s free evening concert on Sunday, June 17 at 6pm.
Manic Drive’s recent achievements range from winning a Juno Award (Canada’s most prestigious music award), to topping Billboard’s Christian Radio Charts over ten times, reaching millions of online listeners, and an impressive touring career with some of CCM’s top artists. The edgy pop duo sets their focus on a need for honesty, relevance, and transparency in their lyrics and sound.
“We feel that the progression of Christian music is leaning towards playing it safe, appeasing gatekeepers, and that can compromise an artist’s honest expression,” said Shawn Cavallo, lead singer and primary songwriter. “I think it’s time that someone stands up, displays leadership, and remind other artists, fans, and the industry what our primary focus should be. If we want to show this world that what we believe in is real, we have to start being real ourselves. When I interpret the Word, I see faith, I see risk-takers, I read about adventurers who make sacrifices, and we need to start reflecting those teachings in our daily lives.”
The festival committee also noted that comedian Matt Falk and Christian pop/worship band The Color, will take to the stage bringing squeaky clean laughter and vibrant music before Manic Drive closes the evening off.
The flagship morning service at Worship in the City will have guest speaker Mark Hughes from Winnipeg-based Church of the Rock with worship led by Danny Plett & Project Worship. A freewill offering will be taken at the service with 100% of the proceeds being donated to three local charities.
