On September 10, 2016, at approximately 6pm, Winnipegosis RCMP were dispatched to Rock Ridge, Manitoba, following reports that three males with a firearm attended and shot into a residence. Police were told that a number of people, including young children, were present at the residence during the time of the incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers found that members of the community had already detained two of the men and had recovered a firearm. RCMP officers located and arrested the third male suspect, who had previously fled in a stolen vehicle.
RCMP report that 35-year-old Reggie Joseph Leask, 26-year-old Craig Donavon Catcheway and 25-year-old Billy Joe Catcheway, all from Skownan First Nation, will be facing numerous offences.
“This was a difficult situation for the community as our closest detachment was 70 km away, but engaging with armed and violent criminals is dangerous and puts lives at risk,” said Corporal Luc Samson of the Winnipegosis RCMP. “While no one was injured and the criminals were caught, the safest action is always to call police and to seek shelter in a safe location until officers arrive.”
No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.
