The City of Steinbach is pleased to announce that it has been chosen as the recipient of two Manitoba Community Places grants, awarded by the Provincial Government.
The City says that one grant will be used to construct a new play structure in Giesbrecht Park, located close to the corner of First Street and Giesbrecht Street. Improvements will include a climber structure with a slide and some additional features such as a spring seat. Pea gravel will also be added. These park improvements are part of the City’s playground renewal project. Each year, money is put aside and used to enhance neighbourhood parks. The Manitoba Community Places grant will contribute $10,500 to the park upgrade which will cost approximately $25,000.
The second grant will be used to replace the lockers at the Steinbach Aquatic Centre. The current metal lockers have rust damage due to the high humidity environment. New lockers will be plastic in nature to avoid a similar issue in future. The grant will also assist with the replacement of the glass window blocks used on three of the centre’s upper exterior walls. New, more energy efficient sealed unit windows will be put in place and still provide natural light for the facility. The Community Places grant will contribute approximately $48,000 of the total project cost of approximately $137,000.
The City of Steinbach thanks the Province of Manitoba for these grants and looks forward to completing these projects for the community to enjoy.
