Creighton and Flin Flon RCMP responded to a recent incident where a vehicle was stolen that had a three-year-old girl in the back seat.
On July 31, 2018, at approximately 4:20pm, Creighton RCMP received reports that a vehicle had been stolen from outside a business on Main Street in Creighton, SK. There was a three-year-old girl in the back seat of the truck at the time. Reports indicated the vehicle was headed toward Flin Flon and members from the Creighton and Flin Flon RCMP Detachments responded immediately and pursued the vehicle.
Police say that the pursuit ended just outside of Cranberry Portage when the stolen vehicle struck a spike belt and rear-ended a vehicle, rendering the suspect vehicle inoperable. The driver got out and fled into the nearby bush. At this time, officers located the three-year-old child unharmed in the backseat of the truck. The child was subsequently reunited with her mother.
RCMP from Creighton, Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage and The Pas set up a perimeter in efforts to contain the male. A police dog from The Pas RCMP Police Dog Service Unit attended the scene and located the driver hiding under a vehicle in an outbuilding.
RCMP report that an adult male was apprehended after sustaining injuries from a police dog bite and from the collision. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released into RCMP custody in Saskatchewan.
As a result of this incident, 42-year-old Terrance Charles Nickerson from Medicine Hat, AB, has been charged with kidnapping without a firearm, theft of a truck, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer, abduction of a person under 16 and operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police.
