Steinbach MLA and Education and Training Minister Kelvin Goertzen is inviting Manitobans to nominate a deserving educator for a Manitoba Excellence in Education Award.
“Today is World Teachers’ Day and we want to recognize the monumental role teachers play in society as they instill a desire to learn and achieve and create tomorrow’s leaders,” said Goertzen.'”Our Excellence in Education Awards celebrate the dedication and expertise of our educators, and the difference they make in the lives of Manitoba’s students.”
The province is now accepting nominations for outstanding achievement by educators in the following categories:
- teaching excellence (three awards);
- outstanding new teacher (one award);
- outstanding team collaboration (one award);
- outstanding school leader (one award); and
- premier’s award for excellence in education (one award).
The province invites parents, students, school trustees, fellow teachers, and school or school division administrators to make submissions by the Nov. 30 deadline. All nominees must be educators who hold a valid, permanent Manitoba teaching certificate at the time of nomination. They must also work directly with kindergarten to Grade 12 students in a school setting on a daily basis.
The selection committee includes representatives from Manitoba Education and Training, Manitoba School Boards Association, Manitoba Association of Parent Councils and Manitoba Federation of Independent Schools.
Each award recipient will receive $500 and a framed certificate, presented in April 2019 at a reception at the Manitoba Legislative Building.
