Week two of the RCMP Holiday Checkstop Program, from December 10 to 16, 2018, has resulted in 70 checkstops conducted around Manitoba with approximately 3530 vehicles being checked.
Results for the Checkstops include:
- 18 people charged with impaired driving (alcohol)
- five people charged with refusing a breath demand
- the highest blood/alcohol reading reported was .300 (nearly four times the legal limit)
- eight alcohol-related tiered suspensions
- 17 people charged with improper storage of alcohol or cannabis in a vehicle
There was one traffic-related fatality in Pukatawagan, which did not involve impairment.
Last year during week two, RCMP members conducted 50 checkstops, checked 2306 vehicles, and charged 23 people with Criminal Code Impaired Driving offences.
