A 35-year-old La Broquerie, Manitoba man is facing multiple impaired driving-related charges after recently being arrested by Steinbach RCMP.
On February 13, 2019 at 3:30pm, Steinbach RCMP Detachment and Traffic Services were dispatched to an impaired operation incident at a location on PR 207 in the RM of Ste. Anne, Manitoba.
Police say that a male suspect was observed by witnesses consuming an alcoholic beverage while operating his vehicle. The suspect was then seen driving into the culvert adjacent to the highway. It was reported that the suspect exited his vehicle and fled the scene with witnesses advising he was intoxicated due to having a strong odour of alcohol emanating from himself. The suspect also was noted to have been staggering while running from the scene of the collision.
Steinbach RCMP and Traffic Services immediately responded by patrolling in the nearby area in an effort to locate the suspect, who at that point had fled to a nearby residence. Officers surrounded the residence and associated buildings following foot tracks left from the suspect. Subsequent investigation located several cans of alcohol beverages within the motor vehicle operated by the suspect.
Police Dog Services arrived on scene to assist – locating the suspect in a garage associated to the residence.
Steinbach RCMP identified the suspect as 35-year-old Jonathan Edward Forsyth of La Broquerie, Manitoba. Forsyth is facing numerous impaired driving-related charges as well as resisting arrest. He has since been released from custody with a scheduled Steinbach Provincial Court appearance.
RCMP report that the suspect’s blood alcohol content was determined to be 260 mg%, over three times the legal limit as established via breath tests.
