Niverville Collegiate Institute students will be back to school as normal on Tuesday, after receiving a threat via social media on Monday.
On the afternoon of April 8, 2019, a social media threat was made against the Niverville Collegiate Institute (NCI), located at 161 5th Avenue South in Niverville. Hanover School Division (HSD) said that the threat was not time specific, but was directed at NCI.
As per HSD emergency procedures, the school was placed in Hold and Secure, with RCMP being notified. Within a very short time, the suspect was apprehended, and the RCMP declared the school to be safe. At that point, the Hold and Secure was lifted.
HSD and NCI were assured by local RCMP that it is safe for all students to return to school on Tuesday, April 9. HSD noted that all classes will run as per scheduled and counselors will be available at the school for those students that may need to talk or debrief.
