Steinbach is once again offering local residents the opportunity to drop off compostable items at its annual Community Compost Depots. The 2019 program will begin May 18, 2019.
The City says that the Community Compost Depots will be open every Saturday, 9am to 3pm, from May 18 until October 12, 2019. The depots will be located at the Woodlawn School yard (411 Henry Street) and the Stonybrook Middle School by the track (77 Lumber Avenue).
The City composts this material at the Landfill and uses the rich compost in the City’s parks and gardens. Compost is also available for the public to pickup at no charge.
Items to compost include Vegetables and fruit (fresh, cooked, canned), coffee grounds and filters, tea leaves and bags, egg shells, bread, plain rice and pasta, garden waste, weeds without seeds, grass clippings and leaves.
The City reminds particants that items not to compost include meat, fish, bones, eggs, dairy products, oily foods and sauces, pet waste, diseased plants, metals, synthetic materials, plastic and petroleum products.
