Farm Credit Canada (FCC) is contributing $100,000 to school meal programs across Canada as part of FCC Drive Away Hunger.
For a third year in a row, FCC is supporting meal programs offered at 100 schools across Canada. Recipient schools are selected based on need by local FCC offices.
“When children have enough to eat, they can focus on learning, which sets them up for success,” said FCC president and CEO Michael Hoffort, in announcing this year’s goal to collect the equivalent of five million meals for Canada’s food banks. “We are proud to be a source of support for school meal programs and local food banks that have a significant impact on the lives of Canadian youth and their families each day. We couldn’t do it alone, our customers, partners and school communities are key to the success of that campaign.”
One of the more visible activities of FCC Drive Away Hunger involves driving a tractor and trailer through communities to collect food and cash donations for food banks across the country.
The tractor tours will take place between October 8 and 18 across Canada to collect food and cash donations from individuals and organizations, including industry partners and schools.
FCC offices are also now collecting food and cash donations until October 18. One hundred per cent of donations go to Canadian food banks, and anyone can visit fccdriveawayhunger.ca to make a monetary donation.
“Canada’s agriculture industry is generous and hard-working,” said Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau. “Those qualities are reflected in the success of FCC Drive Away Hunger which gives local food banks a much-needed boost each year. I applaud FCC and the agriculture community for coming together to put meals on the table for Canadian families in need.”
Since 2004, FCC employees, customers and community partners have raised over 50 million meals through FCC Drive Away Hunger.
