On October 22, 2016, at approximately 1:45pm, Steinbach RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Hanover Road West (PR Road 34), approximately one kilometre south of Steinbach in the RM of Hanover, Manitoba.
Police say that a westbound car went off the road and rolled into the south ditch, colliding with some trees. The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle, from the RM of Ste. Anne and the 16-year-old passenger of the vehicle, from Steinbach, were both transported to Winnipeg hospital, both in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
RCMP report that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.
An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Update
RCMP report that the 16-year-old driver of the vehicle is now deceased. The passenger remains in hospital in stable condition.
