Manitoba RCMP have responded to two recent motorcycle collisions in which two occupants died as a result.
On June 22, 2019, at 11:20am, officers from the Minnedosa RCMP responded to a report of a motorcycle collision on Highway 5, located approximately two kilometres north of Kelwood in the RM of Rosedale.
Officers attended the scene and determined that a motorcycle, being operated by a 58-year-old Winnipeg man, was traveling north on Highway 5 when it left the roadway and entered the ditch. The operator and lone occupant of the bike, was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered life-threatening injuries.
RCMP report that the operator was taken to hospital in Winnipeg and on June 24, 2019, he succumbed to his injuries.
On June 26, 2019, at 10:50pm, officers from the Blue Hills RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a motorcycle and vehicle at a location on Highway 2, near the intersection with Road 120 West in the RM of Souris-Glenwood.
Officers attended the scene and determined that a vehicle, being driven by a 78-year-old RM of Souris-Glenwood man, was traveling east on Highway 2 when it crossed the center line and collided with a westbound motorcycle carrying two occupants, a 71-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, both from Souris, Manitoba.
Police say that the 70-year-old female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene and the 71-year-old male operator of the motorcycle was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
RCMP noted that all three motorcycle occupants in both collisions were wearing helmets and speed and alcohol are not considered factors.
A Forensic Collision Reconstructionist assisted with both collisions and they remain under investigation.
