The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a 16-year-old female in Thompson that resulted in her sustaining a serious injury.
On October 16, 2019, the RCMP advised the IIU of an incident that occurred on October 8 in Thompson. The RCMP were called to an incident of a possible domestic disturbance. Upon arrival on scene the officers attempted to take a female into custody. She became uncooperative and force was used to arrest her. She was transported to the detachment, arrested and released. On October 12th the female attended Thompson Hospital complaining of a sore arm. She was diagnosed with a dislocated right elbow and fractured right wrist.
As a fractured wrist is defined as a serious injury under the IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
