Island Lake RCMP are currently investigating a fire that destroyed the Garden Hill Band Office earlier this week.
On November 7, 2016, just before 10:30am, an Island Lake RCMP officer was on patrol when he saw a fire at the Garden Hill Band Office. The building was under construction and unoccupied at the time of the incident.
Once on scene, the officer heard voices in the building. He entered the burning building through a window and found one youth, which he was able to get out of the building safely. Another youth had already exited the building and there were no injuries to either as a result of the fire.
RCMP report that both male youths, ages 12 and 13, were arrested and have been charged with arson. They have been released from custody. Police continue to investigate this incident.
