The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the discharge of a firearm by an off-duty RCMP officer in the East District.
On November 29, 2019, the RCMP notified the IIU of an incident that occurred on September 7 when an off-duty officer was hunting and the firearm he was carrying discharged, resulting in a serious injury to the officer.
As any injury caused by the discharge of a firearm is defined as a serious injury under IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
