On November 8, 2016, at approximately 11am, Fisher Branch and Peguis RCMP attempted to execute a Winnipeg Police Service arrest warrant for sexual assault on a 32-year-old man from Winnipeg. The man was staying in Fisher River Cree Nation, Manitoba.
When officers arrived at the residence, the man exited the home with a rifle and fled into a heavily wooded area south of the community. To ensure public and officer safety, RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Emergency Response Team were deployed to assist in apprehending the suspect.
Police say that the suspect was taken into custody without incident just before 6pm on November 8, 2016.
RCMP report that charges are pending and the suspect is also facing a charge of sexual assault from the initial warrant. He remains in custody.
