A 37-year-old Selkirk man has been arrested by RCMP in connection to a recent armed robbery that occurred at a local business in Selkirk, Manitoba.
On June 26, 2020, at approximately 11:45pm, RCMP responded to a call of an armed robbery at a business located on Main Street in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Police say that a male suspect, wearing a black balaclava, entered the business holding a knife, demanding cash and cigarettes from the employee. The suspect then left the scene in a vehicle and moments later crashed into a hydro pole. Witnesses at the scene of the collision indicated to officers that the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers attended the residence of the registered owner of the vehicle, while additional officers patrolled the area looking for the suspect. When speaking to the registered owner, officers noticed that a male at the residence was wearing clothing and had tattoos that matched the description of the suspect.
RCMP report that 37-year-old John Adam Curwin of Selkirk was arrested and charged with robbery with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Curwin was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Selkirk on July 10, 2020.
