The eligibility criteria for COVID-19 vaccination have been expanded to include staff employed in congregate group care settings who provide direct care to individuals in the Community Living disABILITY Services, Child and Family Services, Homeless Shelters and Family Violence Shelters. Manitoba Families will work directly with agencies to identify eligible staff, and will contact staff directly to schedule appointments.

Updates to eligibility criteria on Tuesday included health care providers who work in hospital emergency and urgent care departments (change: no age restrictions). Visit manitoba.ca for a full list of those currently eligible to receive the vaccine in Manitoba.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 12, 12,409 doses of vaccine have been administered, including 10,749 first doses and 1,660 second doses. The regional percentage breakdown of vaccines that have been administered includes:

  • nine per cent in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • two per cent in the Northern health region;
  • four per cent in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • 10 per cent in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region; and
  • 75 per cent in the Winnipeg health region.

Immunizations are also underway at personal care homes across the province by Focused Immunization Teams (FITs). It is expected that all personal care home residents will receive their first vaccine dose within the next 28 days. As of Tuesday, Jan. 12, 120 residents have been vaccinated.

At this time, this data does not include vaccinations in First Nations communities. The Manitoba government continues collaborative discussions with First Nations leadership in respect of their publication of vaccination data specific to First Nations.

As of Jan.12,  28,080 doses of Pfizer vaccine have been shipped to sites in Winnipeg and Brandon, as well as to personal care homes across the province. More than 5,300 doses of the Moderna vaccine have been shipped to First Nations communities, with 2,000 doses being used in personal care homes in communities across Manitoba.

Manitoba’s current vaccine inventory is 15,402 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which will be used to administer first and second doses in super-sites in Winnipeg and Brandon as well as 2,000 doses of Moderna which will be used to immunize personal care home residents. In addition, 5,300 of Moderna doses have been allocated for First Nations communities.

As of Jan. 12, 1071 people have been hired to assist with Manitoba’s vaccination efforts at the sites in Winnipeg and Brandon. This includes immunizers, clinic managers, clinical leads, system navigators and observers. This is in addition to 595 staff who have been assigned to COVID-19 immunization efforts from regional health authorities, bringing the total of new hires and existing staff to 1,666.

Individuals who have already booked an appointment for the Winnipeg super-site are encouraged to keep their appointment at this time. However, individuals with existing appointment(s) at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg can shift their appointment to the Keystone Centre if necessary, by calling the same confidential booking number used to make the original appointment.
