Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services has taken the lead in an investigation involving the arrest of a 26-year-old Quebec man who was found to be in possession of multiple weapons, including a conducted energy weapon.
On January 19, 2021, at approximately 6pm, Headingley RCMP received a call of an erratic driver traveling north on the Perimeter Highway. Officers stopped the vehicle approximately one kilometre west of Highway 7.
During initial contact with the vehicle occupants, it appeared a physical altercation had taken place between them, resulting in the driver being arrested. Upon arrest, the driver became combative and resisted. He then provided an incorrect name once in custody.
Police say that when the driver’s real name became known, it was discovered he had a number of warrants for his arrest from Quebec and Ontario. Upon search of the vehicle, multiple weapons were located, including a conducted energy weapon.
At this point in the investigation, Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services became engaged in the investigation, and investigators have partnered with police agencies in other provinces to further the investigation.
RCMP report that a 26-year-old Quebec man remains in custody and is facing a host of charges including possession of a prohibited weapon and identity fraud.
Major Crime Services continues to investigate due to the multi-jurisdictional and serious nature of the offences. Additional charges may be considered.
