Steinbach RCMP, along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, are currently investigating a residential fire which claimed the life of a 66-year-old La Broquerie, Manitoba man.
On February 4, 2021, at 3:50pm, Steinbach RCMP responded to a report of a structure fire at a residence located on Des Pignons Street in the community of La Broquerie.
Officers arrived on scene to find the residence engulfed in flames. Police were advised by neighbours that the homeowner had been seen earlier in the second storey window but was unable to exit the home due to the fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene and began extinguishing the fire, which allowed them to enter the residence where they located the homeowner.
RCMP report that the 66-year-old male was removed from the residence and pronounced deceased on scene. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
