Vaccine Administration

To date, 58,974 doses of vaccine have been administered including 35,227 first doses and 23,747 second doses. Manitoba remains second among provinces in the number of people who have received two doses of vaccine and are fully protected against COVID-19, at 1,639 per 100,000.

Focused immunization teams will begin providing first-dose immunizations to residents of congregate living facilities in Winnipeg and Brandon today. The teams are following a schedule that prioritizes higher-risk individuals for immunization. A list of all congregate living sites in the province is available online at manitoba.ca under Reports. Further updates about immunizations at congregate living facilities will be provided on an ongoing basis.

About 4,000 residents in 55 personal care homes have received their second doses of vaccine this week. Next week, another 1,475 residents are scheduled to be immunized. All personal care home residents are expected to receive their second dose by the end of the month.

Earlier this week, Manitoba announced plans to launch two new super sites in Selkirk and the Morden-Winkler area, based on expected vaccine supply. Further details on these new sites will be shared in the coming days.

To date, more than 460 medical clinics and pharmacies have applied to be part of the immunization campaign once a suitable vaccine is approved for use in these settings.

Appointments and Eligibility Criteria

Appointments continue to be available for eligible Manitobans in the Winnipeg and Brandon super sites.

Eligibility has been expanded to include people who work in licensed personal care homes, with no age restrictions (expanded from Dec. 31, 1965). Yesterday, the age range for all staff who provide direct patient care services insured by Manitoba Health and Seniors Care was revised to Dec. 31, 1965 (from 1960).

Manitobans should check the complete criteria at gov.mb.ca to determine if they are eligible to make an appointment. If eligible, please call (toll-free) 1-844-626-8222 (1-844-MAN-VACC). Everyone who calls is screened to ensure they meet current eligibility criteria before booking an appointment.

The province expects to allow Manitobans aged 95 and older and First Nation people in Manitoba aged 75 and older to begin booking appointments next week. More information will be provided when eligibility criteria are expanded. However, these individuals should not call to book an appointment at this time.

Currently, the average wait time to make an appointment by phone is less than a minute. A call-back option is also available instead of waiting on hold.
