Two men are dead after their plane crashed this past week at a location near Brunkild, Manitoba.
On February 9, 2017, at 8:50pm, Headingley RCMP were dispatched to a report of an overdue aircraft that had left the St. Andrews Airport just after 6:30 pm on the same day.
RCMP officers from Headingley and Carman searched for the missing plane, a Cesna 185 destined for Winkler. The search continued with detachment members as well as RCMP Search and Rescue and the Canadian Armed Forces Search and Rescue team. Snowmobiles were also deployed and police noted that weather conditions were poor and visibility was low.
At approximately 1:05am on February 10, RCMP discovered the downed aircraft at a location near Brunkild, Manitoba, off of Provincial Road 305. There were two males on board and both were deceased. The deceased, a 60-year-old and 41-year-old victim, were both from Winkler.
The Transportation Safety Board and RCMP are working together in this ongoing investigation.
